about

Pure Joy Bakery is a cookie brand created for wellness-minded consumers that want to avoid the highly processed snacks sold in American grocery stores. All of their products are vegan, dairy free, and contain no added oils or refined sugars. The founder's goal was to provide a healthier alternative for sweet-treat lovers across America.

Pure Joy Bakery came to Scout as Morph Kitchen, with a logo that did not represent the brand's mission accurately. We wanted to create a visual identity that captured the current trends in the health and wellness industry, while still being unique enough to stand out on the shelves of popular grocery stores such as Whole Foods. Additionally, the client asked for packaging for her 3 current products, and a fully functioning e-commerce website.

process

Before we could begin designing, the team tackled the brand's name. The original name felt like it was lacking, and we all saw room for improvement. After brainstorming and discussing with the client, we settled on Pure Joy Bakery - it captured the company's priority to use whole ingredients, and it was fun, catchy, and trendy.

We then researched the company's competitors, mainly focusing on Made Good, Partake, and Joy Days and took inspiration from their use of bright colors and strong visuals. Additionally, we created user personas and stories to nail down on what Pure Joy's target audience is. Finally, we explored 3 different design directions through mood boards and presented them to the client before we began designing.

At the start of every sprint, I allocated work to the designers. We met weekly with the rest of the team for feedback session and I left comments in Figma throughout the week giving designers feedback on their progress. Additionally, we met weekly with the client and presented our progress to her, taking note of any feedback she had before the next sprint. For the website, we conducted 2 rounds of user testing - one after wire-framing, and one before the developers implemented the final designs.

After paying thousands of dollars to someone who was supposed to help me with naming, branding, packaging and website creation, but having nothing to show for it, I reached out to Scout and was elated when they selected me to work with this past semester. From the start, everyone on the team exceeded all my expectations. They were able to capture my ideas perfectly, coming up with names, logos, colors and artwork that I could never have conceived of myself, in an organized and streamlined fashion. More was done in one semester than I accomplished in one year, and at no cost to me! I continue to be amazed and awed by the team, the process and the results.
